The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing tonight on a proposal to build a 60-bed Alzheimer’s hospital in a residential neighborhood. Several residents have already voiced opposition to the project, which would be built at Yorba Linda Boulevard and Summit Drive, saying the area is not appropriate for a lock-down health care center. To permit the 27,000-square-foot, one-story structure, the city would create a “senior citizen zone” on top of the existing residential zone. The senior citizen zone would allow the city to impose regulations on the structure to accommodate residents 58 and older.

The proposal is expected to go before the City Council next week. The Planning Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers, 4845 Casa Loma Ave.
