Guns and Teachers
The suggestion by MacLane C. Key that all schoolteachers should have to carry a firearm (letter, May 24) is almost as nutty as the one I heard saying that schoolchildren should be armed.
More guns will ensure more shootings; that is why British police do not carry guns. The U.S. is awash with millions of firearms, and countries like Great Britain have very few weapons among the general public. Thus the U.S. has 300 times more handgun deaths than Britain. Despite the sophistry of the NRA, guns do kill people.
