Parents who are already planning their summer vacation might want to take note: High schools in Fullerton and La Habra may start classes before Labor Day again next year, school district officials said this week.

This year students were required to start school on Sept. 2, four days before Labor Day. It was the first time in at least 25 years that classes started before the holiday weekend, district officials said.

The change was made because the district increased the length of the school year from 176 days of instruction to 180, as required by state law. The last day of classes this spring will be June 15.

A proposed calendar will be presented at the Nov. 16 board meeting and is expected to be approved at the board’s Dec. 14 meeting.
