6 More Beaches Closed by Pollution

County environmental health officials said Wednesday that six additional beaches have been temporarily closed because of bacterial contamination.

On Monday, officials announced that 10 beaches had been closed by contamination, bringing the total number of closures Wednesday to 16.

The beaches closed Wednesday were: Rincon Beach, Faria County Park, San Buenaventura State Beach, Peninsula Beach, the south jetty and Surfers Knoll.

The beaches closed earlier this week were: McGrath State Beach, Mandalay County Park, Oxnard Shores, Oxnard State Beach, Oxnard Hollywood beach, Ormond beach, Channel Islands Harbor Beach Park, Staircase beach, County Line beach and Hobie beach.

Each beach has been posted with no-swim warnings and will remain closed until environmental health officials have determined that the water meets state standards for ocean water quality.
