Man, 54, Accused of Shooting Stepson
A Northridge man shot and critically injured his 21-year-old stepson Tuesday night, according to police.
Shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday, Vernon Shelton, 54, allegedly shot Brian Powers of Reseda once in the upper body at Shelton’s home in the 18700 block of Nordhoff Street, said Det. Mike Oppelt of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Division.
The men were involved in a dispute, the nature of which is under investigation, Oppelt said. An unidentified family member called 911.
On Wednesday, Powers remained in critical condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Oppelt said.
Shelton has been booked on suspicion of attempted murder and is being held in lieu of $505,000 bail, Oppelt said.
