The strongest aftershock of the Hector Mine earthquake in two weeks rattled an area 35 miles east of Barstow and just north of Interstate 40 early Sunday, Caltech seismologists reported.
The 6:20 a.m. temblor measured magnitude 4.5. There were no reported injuries or damage.
The quake was at the northern edge of the Hector Mine aftershock zone. Scientists have said aftershocks from the 7.1 earthquake of Oct. 16 may last a decade.
