The City Council tonight will decide what it should do, if anything, as Laguna Hills begins the process of trying to annex a part of unincorporated Aliso Viejo.
In 1997, the city decided against annexing a portion of Aliso Viejo that is being considered by Laguna Hills as a way of respecting the community’s push for cityhood, Laguna Niguel City Manager Tim Casey said.
“While it might be logical and economically beneficial, the council thought it would be unfair to Aliso Viejo because it would have an adverse financial impact on future incorporation,” Casey said.
The council received a letter last week from Aliso Viejo Cityhood 2000 asking for the city’s support in maintaining its boundaries.
City officials did not make any recommendations to the council about the annexation, Casey said.
