The City Council is scheduled to vote tonight on whether to begin eminent domain proceedings on property at Imperial Highway and Lakeview Avenue.
The city needs the parcel for the $25-million Imperial Highway improvement project. City officials offered $32,400 to Billy Lee and Cynthia Holder in October, but according to city documents, the property owners refused to sell. Cities are able to seize land and pay an appraised value for the property if it is for public purposes. The owners would probably receive the city’s initial offer of $32,400.
