* Dance--The Santa Barbara Dance Theatre will open its ninth season Friday with “River of Silk” at the Lobero Theatre, 33 E. Canon Perdido St., Santa Barbara. The contemporary dance is billed as a world premiere by artistic director Jerry Pearson and will be performed to the music of Chopin. * Stage--The Santa Barbara Civic Light Opera’s performance of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” opens Friday at the Granada Theatre, 1216 State St., Santa Barbara. With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, the production tells the story of Jacob’s favorite son and his adventures in Egypt. * Classical--The Westmont Chamber Orchestra and Wind Ensemble will present their fall concert Friday at Westmont College’s Porter Theatre in Santa Barbara. The orchestra’s program will include Handel’s Suite in D major, plus a medley of works by Duke Ellington. The wind ensemble will perform selections by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Frank Ticheli, Alexander Goedicke and others. * Theater--The Santa Barbara City College Theatre Group will open “Stop Kiss,” a new play by Diana Son, Friday at the campus Studio Theater. It’s about the evolving complex and ambiguous relationship between two women. Show times: Wednesday-Saturday, 8 p.m.; Sunday, 2 p.m. Through Dec. 11. * Sculpture--The Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum will open “Chromaform: Color in Sculpture” Saturday, featuring works by 13 artists. The exhibition explores “the role of color in post-formal sculpture to determine if color transcends the expressive, compositional and decorative effects of earlier colored three-dimensional work through meaning, reference and a renewed critical interest in beauty.” Through Jan. 2. * World Music--SOhO will host the first Pan-African Music Fete on Saturday, featuring Dodo Munoko and his La Rumba Band.
