On a 4-0 vote, the City Council approved $3,314 in expenses for removing squatters at an abandoned property at 16631 Markham St. The current owner cannot be found.
On Oct. 14, a fire, apparently started by transients, gutted the interior of the residence. City Manager Raymond H. Kromer declared the property a public nuisance and ordered an emergency abatement based on the Fountain Valley Municipal Code. On Oct. 15, code enforcement officers boarded up the property and continue to monitor it for safety purposes.
