SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO
The city will distribute 200 free ultra low-flush toilets to residents Saturday in a effort to save water by replacing older toilets.
The low-flush toilets use 1.6 gallons of water per flush compared to older models that use from 3.5 to 7 gallons each flush.
The new toilets are expected to save the average household more than 5,000 gallons of water a year.
City officials said the new toilets will help reduce pumping cost and the delivery of water by reducing water usage.
The toilets are being provided by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
Residents can pick up a free toilet, in exchange for their old one, from 9 a.m. to noon at City Hall.
