Meeting to Focus on Le Parc Judgment

Assemblyman Tom McClintock (R-Northridge) will host a town hall meeting in Simi Valley today to discuss a $6.6-million judgment against the Le Parc Homeowners Assn. and other potential legal concerns for area homeowners.

“We’ve been flooded with e-mails and letters on this issue,” said Russ Hopkins, McClintock’s Ventura County field officer. “We’re hoping to discuss what happened [at Le Parc], and how we can stop it from happening again” with another homeowners association.

Last year, the American Arbitration Assn. ruled that Le Parc homeowners must pay damages to ZM Corp. The company alleged that Le Parc board members tried to restructure a repair contract after work began, interfered between the contractor and a subcontractor, and tried to ruin ZM’s business by diverting funds and slandering its chief executive officer.

The ruling created an average $162-a-unit monthly assessment against the homeowners association. Lawyers from both parties will attend the meeting, and McClintock doesn’t plan to take a position on the long-running conflict.

“We’ll just see what we can do to help,” Hopkins said.

The meeting will run from 1 to 3 p.m. at Royal High School, 1402 Royal Ave.
