The Kentucky State women’s team canceled its November schedule of five games and the remainder of its season is in jeopardy, Athletic Director Derrick Ramsey said.

“Of course, that is our last, last and I say completely last thought on that,” Ramsey said. “But if it comes to where we can’t field a team that’s competitive, that might be the smart thing to do.”

The team already had withdrawn from a season-opening tournament in Florida because it lacked enough players to field a team. Thirteen players were suspended last week during investigation of a possible $12,000 theft at a Frankfort, Ky., sporting goods store.

University of Miami (Fla.) sophomore guard Michael Simmons is expected to be out three to six weeks after having surgery to remove bone spurs from his right foot. He averaged 2.7 points, 1.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists last season.
