PETER WARRICK

Wide receiver, Florida State

What’s the latest in fall fashion? At Saturday’s Florida State-Florida game at Gainesville, it was the limited edition Peter Warrick “1999 Heistman” T-shirt. Warrick was the leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy before his arrest on theft charges in a shopping scam at a Dillard’s store in Tallahassee in October, and just before the biggest game of the college football season “1999 Heistman” T-shirts were popping up all over Gainesville. Warrick is pictured in the front of the T-shirt with a “Heistman” trophy and a Dillard’s bag in tow. Below, it reads, “It’s not like he shot the president,”--a play on Warrick’s first comments after the investigation became public: “It’s not like I killed the president.” The University of Florida book store sold more than 1,000 of the T-shirts at $16.99 a pop, which is slightly less than what Warrick and teammate Laveranues Coles paid for $400 worth of Dillard’s merchandise in their shopping spree.

Saturday: 9 catches, 90 yards, 0 TDs; 5 carries, 19 yards, 1 TD.

Season: 71 catches, 934 yards, 8 TDs; 16 carries, 92 yards, 3 TDs.

Next: A quote from the Florida State sports information department on how Warrick “would give the shirt of his back” to help Seminoles win the national championship.

RON DAYNE

Running Back, Wisconsin

With the NCAA career rushing record tucked away, Dayne had to figure out what to do without the football as the Badgers completed their regular season Nov. 13 and don’t play again until the Rose Bowl. How about going on a turkey shoot with Bob Knight? Join Peter Warrick in Tallahassee for a holiday shopping spree? Go to Sunday’s New Orleans Saints game and provide sideline support for Ricky Williams as he tries to score his first NFL touchdown? Better pass on the last one

--Williams will want his rushing record back.

Saturday: Would have scouted Stanford defense, but the Big Game wasn’t on TV.

Season: 303 carries, 1,834 yards, 19 TDs

Next: Frequent visits to Rose Bowl end zones.
