Kavin Gailliard rushed for 198 yards, setting the NCAA all-division single-season rushing record, in American International’s 41-20 victory over C.W. Post. Gailliard gained 2,653 yards, breaking Barry Sanders’ record of 2,628 set in 1988. . . . Quarterback Joe Hamilton finished with 317 total yards in Georgia Tech’s 26-23 loss to Wake Forest, making him the first player in Atlantic Coast Conference history with 10,000 all-purpose yards.
Nevada receiver Trevor Insley caught 14 passes for 242 yards, becoming the first NCAA receiver to reach the 2,000-yard mark in a season in a 37-35 loss to Utah State. He also set the Division I record for career receptions with 298. . . . With a 31-21 loss to Clemson, South Carolina extended the nation’s longest losing streak to 21 games, finishing the season 0-11 under new Coach Lou Holtz. The Gamecocks became the first Southeastern Conference team to finish 0-11 without forfeits.
