Despite Higher Net Sales, PerfectData Records Loss

PerfectData Corp. in Simi Valley said that net sales for the quarter ended Sept. 30 increased about 12% to $472,000, up from $423,000 in the year-earlier period.

Despite the increase in sales, the loss for the quarter was $135,000, compared with a loss of $101,000 a year earlier. The loss for the current quarter is primarily caused by nonrecurring expenses for consulting services related to merger and acquisition activities and an increase in the reserves for bad debt.

Company officials said they have identified several potential businesses, along with product and service extensions, to enable the firm to expand revenue and earnings and build shareholder value.

PerfectData holds modest stakes in Flamemaster Corp., El Guapo Spices, and Staruni, an Internet service and commerce provider.

PerfectData designs and markets computer, office care and maintenance products and accessories.
