Blood Services Calling for Donors

Share

United Blood Services is calling for Ventura County residents to give blood as they give thanks this week.

Thanksgiving marks the beginning of one of the most difficult seasons for blood centers around the nation, according to health officials. Students are studying for exams, families are enjoying the holidays and employees are taking vacations.

“Typically we see a dip in blood donations during the holiday season,” said Patty Hunt, community relations director for United Blood Services. “But as we know, the hospitals do not close during the holidays. Blood is still needed no matter what time of year it is.”

Because the local blood center, located at 1756 Eastman Ave. in Ventura, is making final preparations for Y2K, it will not be able to accept donations from Thursday through Sunday. It will reopen Monday.

Donors must be at least 17 years old, in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds. For more information, call United Blood Services at (800) 715-3699.
