From Staff Reports

The Third McDonald’s Community College Bowl, scheduled for Dec. 4 at Antelope Valley College, has been canceled after a team selected to play in the game was changed.

Southwest was supposed to face Southwestern but was shifted by the Commission on Athletics to the newly created Western State Conference Classic and replaced in the McDonald’s game by El Camino.

On Monday, the COA added Moorpark and El Camino, ranked No. 7 in Southern California, to the bowl lineup after the two were not selected by the bowl committee on Sunday. The WSC Classic was created to accommodate the additional teams.

Wanda Gallerson, Dean of Student Development at Antelope Valley College who represents the McDonald’s game, suggested Southwestern take the game instead. Southwestern, of Chula Vista, hosts El Camino at 5 p.m. on Dec. 4.

Moorpark (6-4) hosts Southwest (6-4) at 1 p.m. on Dec. 4 in the WSC Classic, extending the Raider streak to 12 consecutive bowl appearances.

“In the process of the bowl committee meeting [on Sunday], somehow El Camino was overlooked,” said Jack Shinar of the COA. “The COA looked at the situation again [and added El Camino].

“At that time, there was already talk of having a second Western State Conference bowl.”

Hancock (9-1) and Ventura (9-1) are meeting in the WSC Bowl on Dec. 4 at Rio Mesa High.

* Fullback Jaumal Bradley and defensive end Brennen Swanson of Cal State Northridge were selected to the All-Big Sky Conference first team.

Bradley rushed for a team-high 907 yards and seven touchdowns for the Matadors (5-6), who finished fifth with a 4-4 conference record. Swanson led the Matadors with 12.5 sacks and finished as the Matadors’ career sacks leader.

Receiver Aaron Arnold, return specialist Terrence Jones, defensive tackle Shawnbay Jones and cornerback Mel Miller of Northridge were second-team selections.
