Man Is Arrested in Slaying of Cabdriver in Hollywood

A 26-year-old cabdriver was killed in Hollywood during an apparent robbery late Tuesday, and a suspect was arrested later, police said.

The driver, identified as Jose Reyes Benitez, was shot while being robbed about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 5800 block of Camerford Avenue, said LAPD Det. Michael Thrasher said.

Benitez was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he died, police said.

Authorities said that Michael Timothy Parker, 33, of Los Angeles was arrested on suspicion of murder and held on $1-million bail.

Witnesses told police that as many as three men fled the scene after the shooting. Police dogs searched the nearby neighborhood.

The driver is the 15th person killed in Hollywood this year. police said.
