Police Shooting

Share

* Mental health advocates want police to give “space” to someone such as the nude man in a Pacoima intersection (“LAPD Officer Kills Man in Pacoima,” Nov. 21). How much space? Does a person on PCP qualify for this “space”? How about a crazy drunk? What if the person given this “space” bolts and injures or kills an innocent passerby? Are the city and Police Department then liable?

Are not many of the people who go on killing rampages with firearms a little crazy? Who gets to make all of these decisions?

To me, a person who chases a police officer and makes a grab at that officer’s weapon has asked for the most severe consequences. Some injustices will have to be accepted or policing will become impossible. Those of us who are not crazy deserve some protection.
