A Pointless Put-Down

Share

Other than a feeble attempt at hip humor, what was the point of your put-down of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Margaret Herrick Library (“Hollywood Lockup,” by Josh Susong, So SoCal, Nov. 7)?

Are we supposed to share the smug viewpoint that equates library practices with a penitentiary’s, and derides restrictions that forbid food and drink in areas where they might be spilled onto expensive books?

Most of the library’s users, myself included, are happy to follow sensible precautions to protect valuable reference materials. The only griping ever to be heard is from impatient, self-important characters who believe rules shouldn’t apply to them.
