Train Versus Plane

Share

Last month I had a family reunion to attend in Cleveland. Since I have come to abhor hours of sardine-can torture in the no-longer-friendly skies, I decided to try something I had only vague memories of from childhood: the train. What a pleasant surprise. The service was attentive and efficient. The food was good. The sleeping cabin facilities were clean and well maintained, and the scenery was glorious. It was a relaxing and refreshing journey.

The only problems I encountered during 10 days through 17 states were delays caused by mechanical problems and waiting for freight trains to pass. Even the crew was complaining about how freight trains are given higher priority than passengers.
