Fred H. Jeffers; Retired Attorney

Retired attorney Fred Hards Jeffers died Thanksgiving morning at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. He was 100.

He was born April 19, 1899, in Montrose, Pa. After graduating from Cornell Law School in 1926, Jeffers practiced with the Mandeville law firm in Elmira, N.Y., for 10 years. He later had his own probate practice for 18 years in Binghampton, N.Y., and for 20 years in Windsor, N.Y.

When he retired at 78 and moved to Camarillo, he became a member of the Camarillo Christian Church and was baptized at 90.

Jeffers was a book lover who was active in the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge in New York.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean Jeffers of Camarillo; daughter Patricia Jeffers of Camarillo; and a grandson, William Jeffers of Binghampton.

Services are scheduled Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pierce Bros. Griffin Mortuary in Camarillo, with Pastor Charles Maloney of the Camarillo Christian Church officiating.

Private burial will be held Dec. 9 in Windsor, N.Y.

Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Bros. Griffin Mortuary in Camarillo.
