Mammoth 50, St. Margaret’s 7--The Tartans turned the ball over six times, had a punt blocked and managed only 168 yards in their loss at Capistrano Valley High.
Tanner Hartman paced the visiting Huskies (4-1) with 256 yards rushing in 28 carries, scoring on runs of two, 11 and 10 yards.
The Huskies controlled the game physically. In addition to the four interceptions, they forced two fumbles, each of which led to a touchdown. Mammoth also scored a touchdown following the blocked punt.
St. Margaret’s quarterack tandem of Rhett Swanson and Ryan Birtcher combined to complete 6 of 19 passes for 74 yards. Each threw two interceptions.
Andreas Werner rushed for 78 yards in 11 carries for St. Margaret’s (2-2). Werner provided the only spark in the Tartan offense and scored his team’s only points on a five-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
With the game in hand in the second half, Mammoth’s Gabe Higerd rushed for 67 yards in seven carries, scoring on a four-yard run. Teammate Matt Morning added 55 yards in seven carries and scored on a 12-yard run.
Dale Ziola and Bubby Greene rounded out the scoring for Mammoth with one touchdown each.
