Driver Dies in Early-Morning Rollover
A motorist was killed early Sunday morning when a 1990 Toyota 4-Runner overturned and burst into flames on a transition road onto the northbound San Diego Freeway in Costa Mesa, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said.
The crash occurred at 1:02 a.m. when the unidentified driver drove off the transition road from the northbound Corona del Mar Freeway and struck a bridge railing.
“It continued along the railing for several hundred feet, then it rolled over and burst into flames,” said dispatcher David Aguirre.
A Costa Mesa police helicopter in the area called for assistance. The Orange County Coroner is awaiting dental records to identify the driver.
