Dean O’Brien; Movie, TV Producer

Dean O’Brien, co-producer of such motion pictures as “Thelma and Louise” and “Steel Magnolias,” died Saturday of complications from a lung transplant. He was 67.

Born in Beverly Hills and educated at USC, O’Brien served as a pilot in the Air Force and then began his Hollywood career by producing commercials. He formed his own production company and produced several television series and feature films.

Among his television credits were the 1984 miniseries “V: The Final Battle” and “V: The Series,” which ran until 1985. He was production manager for the television movie “A Smoky Mountain Christmas” in 1986 and the miniseries “Out on a Limb.”

For the large screen, he helped produce such films as “Things Are Tough All Over,” “Wrong Is Right,” “The Cutting Edge,” “Blown Away,” “Terminal Velocity” and “Buddy.”
