Natural Gas Leak Prompts Evacuation
A natural gas leak Saturday morning forced authorities to evacuate 10 businesses and to temporarily close two streets near the Las Virgenes Road offramp of the eastbound Ventura Freeway.
“We evacuated the nearby facilities because there was a strong gas odor, but the line was clamped and there were no injuries,” said Clyde Taylor, a Los Angeles County Fire Department spokeswoman. “It was under control right away.”
Authorities said the leak started about 9:30 a.m., when a construction crew accidentally severed a 4-inch gas main in the 4800 block of Las Virgenes Road.
As a precaution, sheriff’s deputies closed parts of Agoura and Las Virgenes roads for about an hour.
