SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO
Rep. Ron Packard (R-Oceanside) has amended a pending congressional appropriations measure to include $1 million for preservation efforts at Mission San Juan Capistrano.
If approved, the money would be used to restore the mission’s Great Stone Church, which needs repairs because time and the elements are taking a toll.
The ongoing $7-million restoration project includes retrofitting to withstand earthquakes, stone conservation and repairs necessitated by water damage and erosion.
