Tyson Catches Scoring Pass to Give Katella Late Victory

Phil Tyson caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Chris Haller with 11 seconds left in the game to give Katella a 24-17 victory over El Dorado in the Empire League opener for both teams Friday night at Glover Stadium.

With the scored tied, 17-17, Katella (2-4, 1-0 in league) had a key pass-interference call go there way on third and 22 from there own 31. The call gave the Knights a first down at the El Dorado 46 with 43 seconds left. Two plays later, Haller connected with Tyson for 44 yards to the Golden Hawk seven.

The Knights had tied the score on their previous possession when Haller found Tyson open for a four-yard score midway through the fourth quarter.

Tyson caught seven passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

At halftime, El Dorado (3-3, 0-1 in league) seemed to be in control, steadily moving the ball by handing it off to Nick Zehner, who finished with 148 yards in 31 carries.

After a Katella field goal in the first quarter, Zehner scored on a two-yard run in the second quarter. Zehner had 10 carries for 41 yards on the 56-yard drive.

El Dorado then added a 38-yard field goal by Brian Zurhellen as time ran out in the half to give El Dorado a 10-3 lead.
