DANA POINT

Don’t expect airplanes to fall from the sky at the turn of this century, a councilman told audience members during a Y2K preparedness forum last week. But, Wayne Rayfield said during the meeting at Dana Point City Hall, it being New Year’s, anticipate potential inconveniences not related to Y2K.

A car, for example, could hit a generator and knock out power to an area. Affected residents may think it’s a Y2K disaster, instead of understanding that it is an isolated incident, said Orange County Lt. Paul Ratchford, chief of police services for Dana Point.

But then again, no one knows for sure that Y2K won’t ring in its own bugs, Rayfield said, despite all the money that’s been spent nationwide to prepare for the millennium bug. The best advice, he said, is to be prepared for anything.

“Each of us is really accountable for our actions,” Rayfield said. “Some people plan and others go with the flow.”
