Vanguard Rally Falls Short in Soccer

The Vanguard women’s soccer team scored three goals in the final 17 minutes, but it wasn’t enough to catch host Cal State Los Angeles, which won, 4-3, in a nonconference game Monday.
Cal State L.A. built a 3-0 lead on goals by Kristy Contreras, Naya Echribel and Kim Osorio in the first 55 minutes. But Vanguard cut it to 3-2 on a goal from 30 yards by Ganesa Cobb in the 73rd minute, and Nicole Price’s header off a corner kick in the 84th minute.
After Zulaika Vargas put Cal State L.A. back up by two in the 89th minute, Jennifer Bird scored 10 seconds later with a header off a corner kick.
Brittany Braun had three assists and Robin Landauer had two saves for Vanguard.
Contreras had two assists for Cal State L.A.
