DANA POINT

Dana Point officials are using this weekend’s sewage spill and the subsequent closure of Doheny State Beach to emphasize the need for better communication between the sewage agency and City Hall.

Dana Point “is the only coastal city which doesn’t have jurisdiction over sewers and water, and this incident really illustrates that is what we really need,” Councilwoman Ingrid McGuire said. “It really illustrates that our city should be a member of [the Southeast Regional Reclamation Authority] and should take over the sewer service from the water district.”

The city will make its bid for control of the sewers at a hearing with the Local Agency Formation Commission next March.
