Alex Tanguay, an early rookie-of-the-year candidate, scored for the Avalanche, which had a three-game winning streak and a four-game unbeaten string stopped.

Senator captain Daniel Alfredsson left the game because of an injured right knee in the first period and did not return.

St. Louis 3, Edmonton 2--Jeff Finley scored a rare goal 19 seconds into overtime as the Blues beat the Oilers at St. Louis.

Finley scored his first goal of the season from the right side of the net off a cross-ice pass from Pierre Turgeon as the Blues made their first overtime under the new four-on-four format a success.
