Rrruff Day? Collar Calms Pet and Pal

Share

At last, a way to dress just like your dog: A Chatsworth company has introduced aromatherapy collars for humans and their pets.

The fluffy cotton collars contain various herbs and oils, such as eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree and citronella. The manufacturer, Peppermint Pets Inc., claims that the fragrance “promotes an emotionally balanced and calm environment for pets and people, so both can be more actualized.”

Self-actualized dogs? Absolutely, says the company: “Like people, many pets lead stressful lives today, as evidenced by the prevalence of such emotional disorders as separation anxiety in dogs.”

Yes, it isn’t easy being a canine in the 1990s: sleeping, eating, plotting to kill the mailman, sleeping some more, barking, licking yourself and chasing tiny chuck wagons across the kitchen floor. Fortunately, says the company, “an aromatic herbal collar can have a soothing effect on the nervous and lonely pooch whose [owners] are away at work all day.”

As an added bonus, the $9 collar’s essential oils also supposedly repel insects. So they’re ideal for humans too. Or, if you don’t like wearing collars, Peppermint Pets also sells aromatherapy candles for pets and humans.

But don’t let Fido handle the matches, no matter how self-actualized he is.

Aromatherapy collars are available at pet stores and some department stores, by phone, (818) 772-6993, or online at https://www.peppermintpets.com.
