Halloween Haunts Set for Freaky Happenings

Share

No matter what parties are set for the weekend--and there are plenty of cheeky, freaky happenings--I’ll probably end up on Santa Monica Boulevard with all the other cheeky freaks.

Halloween on the boulevard is usually a mind-blowing experience and we’re simply guessing it’s going to be full-frontal freakfest this year, given that there are two nights to play dress-up. . . . Halloween started early in Long Beach, where all freaks and geeks were lured to last weekend’s Vampire Bizarre, an all-day Gothic festival at Naga. Among the performers was Deep Eynde, whose lead singer Fate Fatal noted a surprising number of families with kiddies floating among the dark wave crowd.

“I guess you don’t have to look weird to like the stuff,” says Fate, who scaled down his usually elaborate stage costuming to sport a bullfighter look. Ole! . . . One notable Hallow-ed night happening is scheduled to pop off at Vynyl in Hollywood, where a live performance by Taime Down’s Newlydeads will be captured for posterity. The show’s being recorded for a live album. . . . Word has it Steven Seagal smelled like patchouli at Friday night’s star-studded opener of the Sunset Room. We never really thought of him as a hippie, although he sure does wear a lot of funky clothes.

Also on hand that night were Bono (dressed as Fidel Castro!?!), Tori Spelling, Bruno Campos, Rod Stewart, Drew Barrymore and Matthew McConaughey. . . . A wee chicky tells us WAR’s “Why Can’t We Be Friends Jam” on Nov. 8 at the Viper Room may feature Greg Dulli from the Afghan Wigs and Alex Gifford from Propellerheads. The always groovy Perry Farrell joined last month’s jam. Proceeds from each event benefit Children of the Night, which helps teenage runaways. . . . Speaking of all-star jams, Halloween at the Mayan Theatre in downtown L.A. should find the Long Beach Dub All-Stars getting its freak on with G. Love & Special Sauce, Kool Keith, Bad Brains’ front-man HR, dub legends Barrington Levy and Half Pint. We hear G. Love is doing its own set, after Kool Keith and DJ Spooky’s opener.
