The Irvine manufacturer of medical lasers narrowed its losses in the fourth quarter on a 53% increase in revenue.

The company said it lost $553,000, or 5 cents a share, for the quarter ended Sept. 30, down from a loss of $1.6 million, or 15 cents a share, for the same period last year. The 1999 figure included $690,000 of research and development costs from Cardiodyne Inc., its 90%-owned subsidiary. Revenue totaled $2.3 million, up from $1.5 million.

For the year, net income totaled $2.8 million, or 25 cents a share, contrasted with a net loss of $2.5 million, or 23 cents a share, the previous year. Revenue was up 4% to $7.3 million.
