Doug Gilmour scored his 400th career goal and Steve Passmore made 37 saves as the Chicago Blackhawks beat Detroit, 4-2, Friday night, ending the Red Wings’ five-game winning streak.

Dean McAmmond, Bryan McCabe and Bryan Muir also scored for the Blackhawks, who won their second in a row after a 0-4-4 start.

Steve Duchesne and Chris Chelios had Detroit’s goals as the Red Wings (7-2-1) lost for the first time in eight games since a 3-2 loss to Dallas in their second game of the season.

Gilmour’s first-period goal made him the 54th player in NHL history to reach 400. The Blackhawks never trailed after his score, improving a 2-1 lead after one period to 4-2 after two.

Detroit goalie Chris Osgood made 29 saves.

Red Wings defenseman Larry Murphy appeared in his 1,487th game, tying him with Wayne Gretzky for fourth place on the NHL career list.

Sabres 3, Panthers 2--Geoff Sanderson scored with 5.5 seconds left in overtime to lead Buffalo over visiting Florida.

Sanderson took a pass from Curtis Brown and fired the puck past Florida goaltender Trevor Kidd for his fourth career overtime goal and first for the Sabres. His last game-winner in OT came against Buffalo in February 1996, when Sanderson played for Hartford.

Stu Barnes scored the tying goal with 18 seconds left in regulation.

Devils 4, Hurricanes 2--New Jersey scored three goals in a three-minute span early in the third period as the Devils beat Carolina to spoil the opening of the Hurricanes’ new arena in Raleigh, N.C.

Carolina goaltender Arturs Irbe was sharp for the first 40 minutes as the Hurricanes led 1-0 heading into the final period. But Irbe let in a soft goal from the blue line by 26-year-old rookie Brian Rafalski 51 seconds into the period. Krzyszlof Oliwa and Petr Sykora followed with scores shortly thereafter.
