Eastern Washington Rallies to Win

Jovan Griffith’s five-yard touchdown run with 32 seconds to play propelled Eastern Washington past Cal State Sacramento, 26-21, in a Big Sky Conference game Saturday at Cheney, Wash.

Griffith accounted for all the yards in the eight-play, 46-yard scoring drive. He finished with 214 yards in 37 carries, the 10th-best rushing performance in school history.

Eastern Washington (5-4, 4-2 in Big Sky play) trailed, 14-7, after three quarters.

Jesse Chatman’s 14-yard run tied the score, 14-14, early in the fourth quarter.

Sacramento (4-5, 2-5) answered with a 75-yard touchdown pass from Ricky Ray to Scott Towne.

But the Eagles clamped down and two field goals by Troy Griggs cut the deficit to 21-20.

Montana 73, Idaho State 23--Third-string quarterback John Edwards passed for 268 yards and four touchdowns and the Bengals allowed the most points in their football history at Pocatello, Idaho.

Yohance Humphrey rushed for 106 yards and three touchdowns for Montana (7-1, 6-1), which had 518 yards.

The Grizzlies sacked Kevin McCarthy nine times and sent Idaho State (2-7, 0-6) to its seventh consecutive defeat.

Northern Arizona 49, Montana State 20--Travis Brown completed 20 of 35 passes for 371 yards and four touchdowns, and Ronny Jenkins had 206 all-purpose yards at Flagstaff, Ariz.

The Lumberjacks (5-3, 3-2) rolled up 635 yards.

Jenkins, from Hueneme High, had 112 yards in 13 carries and scored twice in the first half (71-yard run, 19-yard reception).

Francis St. Paul caught six passes for 163 yards, including touchdowns of 70 and 63 yards, for Northern Arizona.

Montana State (3-5, 1-4) got 226 yards passing from Kasey Harte, who completed 13 of 29 attempts.

Portland State 42, Cal Poly SLO 28--Jimmy Blanchard passed for 288 yards and three touchdowns, and Charles Dunn rushed 31 times for 213 yards and two scores, as Portland State (7-2) rallied from a 21-0 deficit in a nonconference game at San Luis Obispo (2-6).

Terry Charles had nine catches for 209 yards and two touchdowns for the Vikings.

San Luis Obispo’s Craig Young scored a 45-yard touchdown run, and Jeff Shaw scored on runs of nine and six yards, putting the Mustangs ahead, 21-0.
