FOCUS: ORANGE COUNTY COMMUNITY NEWS : IRVINE
Trustees for the Irvine Unified School District made another plea for a financial boost from the city’s residents.
“If the parcel tax doesn’t pass, this time next year will not be a pleasant time,” said board President Mike Regele, referring to a $95 annual property tax that will be on the November ballot.
Faced with a $4-million budget deficit, board members decided to ask residents for the tax to salvage the district’s rich arts, music and science programs.
But district officials warned that they would have to start the cuts immediately, should voters reject the proposed tax.
The board now has a week to ask questions and respond to public comments before members legally have to approve the budget by Wednesday.
