OUTLOOK

When Brogden left Cerritos Gahr High to succeed Tim Devaney at Sunny Hills, he expected to start from scratch. “I understood they had graduated something like 21 seniors from last year’s team,’ Brogden said. That team shared the league title with Fullerton. Brogden’s first season will be easier, thanks to Sheppard and Tune, who transferred to Sunny Hills from Gahr. Sheppard (1,019 yards, nine touchdowns) was a San Gabriel Valley League first-team pick. Tune, who led Gahr in tackles, was first-team all-league. “I’ve been with them since they were freshmen and we have a bond,” Brogden said. “I’m glad they transferred. They’re great kids and great athletes.” Building the rest of the team won’t be as simple. Brogden said he was leaning toward starting Drummond at quarterback, but Cummer and Igarta were making serious bids for playing time. The offensive line is woefully green; no player has started a varsity game. Defensively, the Lancers are small but quick, and very smart. “We only have to show them things once,” Brogden said. The coach and his staff will figure out the rest as the season goes along.
