COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UCI Wins in Volleyball

Freshman Lauren Nicholas had 17 kills and tournament MVP Brooke Witt had 15 to lead UC Irvine to a 15-13, 11-15, 3-15, 15-12, 15-7 victory over Idaho State in the championship of the UCI Third Degree women’s volleyball invitational Saturday at UC Irvine.

Larissa Carter had 12 kills and Erika Denison and Sara Ness each had 10 for the Anteaters (4-0).

In the Titan women’s volleyball classic:

Georgetown wins--Led by tournament MVP Yulia Vturina’s 20 kills, Georgetown completed a perfect two-day event with a 9-15, 15-5, 15-13, 15-2 victory over Cal State Fullerton. The Titans were led by Jamie Ivers with 17 kills and 15 digs.

In the Cal State Fullerton cross-country invitational:

Fullerton men take second--Freshman Bryce Lightball, running in his first college race, finished 11th in 26 minutes 1 second on the 8K Carbor Canyon course. Teammate Jason Manhart, a sophomore, was 12th (26:07). UCLA won the men’s and women’s titles. Heather Garritson was 11th for the Titan women, finishing in 18:31 on the 5K course. Fullerton finished eighth.
