Kudos for Take on Baseball Brawls
* Kudos for your fine editorial “Men Will Be Boys” (Sept. 5). It’s about time that the pugnacious and pseudo-manly behavior of some professional athletes--with its negative effects on children--was brought to light. I wish sports reporters on local television would take a cue from the editorial and stop showing brawl highlights on the evening news. Unless the bench-clearing mayhem causes serious injury to a player or umpire, it has nothing whatever to do with the game itself and is simply an exercise in media violence titillation. And the message to our juvenile athletes that fighting is cool is reinforced and sometimes imitated.
