Cash Linked to Bank Robbery Is Found

Investigators recovered an undisclosed amount of cash Sunday after retracing the path of two men who allegedly robbed a Malibu bank and then led authorities on a televised chase through parts of Ventura and Los Angeles counties, authorities said.

An armed man walked into a branch of Bank of America at 10 a.m. Friday, demanded money, and then fled with an accomplice in a compact car, said Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Carri Stuart.

The suspects led authorities on an hourlong pursuit on local freeways and surface streets. The chase ended when the suspects’ car hit the center median on the southbound San Diego Freeway near Wilshire Boulevard.

Deputies arrested Myron Edwards, 29, and James Johnson, 20. But they did not recover any money at the scene, Stuart said.

After an extensive search Sunday, deputies located a bag containing money, a ski mask and a pistol in the 1300 block of La Granada Drive in Thousand Oaks, Stuart said.

Edwards, who was booked on suspicion of robbery, is being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Twin Towers jail, Stuart said. No information on Johnson was available.
