Krieger Gets Through With Series Title

Share

Larry Krieger of Thousand Oaks went into Saturday night’s NASCAR Grand-Am Modifieds race at Irwindale Speedway needing only to start to clinch the series championship.

It almost didn’t happen. Krieger crashed his car in an earlier trophy dash race, but he was prepared. He had asked Rod Johnson, who no longer was running in the series, to bring his car, just in case. Johnson did and Krieger finished fourth and won the track title. Rip Michels of Mission Hills finished second in the points, 46 behind Krieger, 738-692. Despite finishing fifth, Orange’s Mike Pope clinched the NASCAR street-stock title beating Covina’s Luis Del Real by 12 points, 512-500. Albert Sallie of Tujunga won the 15-lap race. T.K. Karvasek of North Hills won the first Figure 8 race held at the track. Lyndon Dysinger of Corona drove his Ford to victory in the 20-lap Tri-State mini-stockars race.
