CULVER CITY — Police asked for the public’s help Tuesday night in finding the person who abandoned a newborn boy in St. Augustine Catholic Church on Washington Boulevard.
The custodian at the church found the baby crying on the pew farthest from the altar at about 3:30 p.m.
The 8-pound, 1-ounce baby, with part of his umbilical cord still attached, was taken to Brotman Medical Center, then transferred to Childrens Hospital in Hollywood.
The child was listed in good condition Tuesday night, said Steve Rutledge of Childrens Hospital. He said the baby was a day old or less.
A spokesperson for the Culver City Police Department said someone apparently put the boy on the pew and left immediately.
Anyone with information is asked to call Culver City police at (310) 253-6208.
