Seniors’ Transit Service to Expand

Share

Daily curb-to-curb bus service for riders 65 and older will be available beginning Oct. 1 under a plan recently approved by city and county officials.

South Coast Area Transit will provide the transportation services in the cities of Ventura, Ojai, Oxnard and Port Hueneme and in unincorporated areas around those cities, officials said.

The cost will be 75 cents each way to ride anywhere in the service area, with no limit on the number of trips per month.

“I am proud that we have achieved our goal to provide an improved and expanded senior transportation service,” said Ventura Mayor Jim Friedman.

For several months, riders complained about not enough bus service and bus stops being too far away. The new service will run weekdays from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturdays from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Rides must be scheduled one to seven days in advance. To schedule a ride, call 649-4421 or 485-2319.
