Agoos’ Shootout Goal Helps Beat MetroStars

Jeff Agoos scored the winning goal as D.C. United defeated the New York/New Jersey MetroStars 2-1 in a shootout Saturday night at Washington, extending its unbeaten streak to a team-record 10 consecutive games.

Jaime Moreno and Agoos scored in the shootout for United (22-7), which has the best record in MLS and is 17-1 against Eastern Conference opponents.

Moreno’s 42nd-minute goal, his fifth in eight games, put Washington ahead, 1-0. Richie Williams and Ben Olsen assisted on Moreno’s 10th goal of the season. He has been involved in 10 of the past 11 goals for United in a five-game span.

Peter Villegas tied it, 1-1, in the 48th minute for the MetroStars.

Columbus 1, New England 0--Ansil Elcock scored the deciding goal of a shootout for the Crew at Foxboro, Mass.

Jeff Cunningham, Stern John and Robert Warzycha also converted in the shootout for Columbus, while Joe-Max Moore scored for New England.

Dallas 2, Kansas City 1--Mark Dodd held the Wizards scoreless in a shootout at Kansas City, Mo.

Ted Eck scored for the Burn (16-13) in the 75th minute. Alexi Lalas scored 11 minutes later for Kansas City. Richard Farer, Jorge Rodriguez and John Jairo Trellez scored for Dallas in the shootout.
