SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Ventura police were searching Monday for a Simi Valley man they believe kidnapped an east county cyclist at gunpoint, robbed him then stole his white late-model Pontiac.

Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of Christopher Evangelista Scull, 20, on suspicion of carjacking and kidnapping. Authorities believe Scull may be armed and dangerous.

On Sunday afternoon, Scull struck up a conversation with Alan Kabakoff of Thousand Oaks as Kabakoff placed his bicycle onto the trunk of his Grand Prix parked in Ventura on the 800 block of West Main Street near the Ventura Freeway, police said. Scull then drew a gun and ordered Kabakoff, 47, inside the sedan, according to Ventura Police Sgt. Bob Anderson.

Kabakoff was then ordered to drive to his bank, withdraw cash from an ATM and continue driving to east Ventura. At Blackburn Road, Kabakoff was told to pull over and Scull forced him to get into the trunk of his car.

While Scull drove southbound on the freeway and along side streets, Kabakoff managed to unlock the trunk, Anderson said. Kabakoff began throwing items from the trunk in an effort to slow vehicles behind him.

When Scull slowed to a stop on Balboa Boulevard in the Granada Hills area, Kabakoff jumped out, ran along the street and hid behind a car before getting into another vehicle, Anderson said.

Kabakoff was not injured during the incident. Scull is described as 5 feet 6 and 160 pounds. He has an olive complexion, black hair and hazel eyes.
