A 5-year-old Anaheim boy died early Sunday, nearly nine hours after riding his bicycle into the path of a motorist who was backing out of a neighbor’s driveway.

Bryan Guevara was riding his bike about 5 p.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of Rosewood Place--the small cul-de-sac where he lived--when a 24-year-old motorist backed his car out of a driveway and struck the child, said Anaheim Police Lt. Harold Mittmann.

The boy was taken to UCI Medical Center and was pronounced dead early Sunday morning.

More than two dozen family members and friends filled Guevara’s residence Sunday for an afternoon Mass. Family members declined to comment on the tragedy.

Bryan was the second young cyclist this month to be killed by a motorist backing out of a driveway in Orange County. A 3-year-old on a tricycle was killed in Huntington Beach in a similar accident Sept. 10.

Police are still investigating Saturday’s incident. The driver was not identified by police.
