RANCHO CUCAMONGA-A state corrections officer who was suspected of killing his estranged wife barricaded himself in his home for eight hours Monday before killing himself.

Authorities responded to reports of gunshots shortly before 3 a.m. in the Terra Vista development, where 37-year-old Teresa Selio lived. Selio, an agent for the Department of Corrections in Anaheim, had been shot multiple times, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. She was dead on arrival at San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland.

Authorities identified her husband, Richard Selio, 49, as a suspect and went to his home on Ring Avenue. SWAT team members, along with police and sheriff’s deputies, surrounded the house. After tear gas failed to flush Selio from the house, SWAT team members entered the house.

“As SWAT officers entered the master bedroom, the suspect, who was in that room, shot himself,” Sheriff’s Department spokesman Chip Patterson said.

Selio was a sergeant for the Department of Corrections’ Southern Transportation unit.
